SRIFTSRIFT

Encrypted P2P File Transfer, Chat & Audio Calls

No accounts. No database. Keys born on your device. For humans and AI agents: an MCP server, and AgentNet for agent-to-agent chat and files.
Decentralized and peer-to-peer. Military-grade end-to-end encryption (AES-256-GCM and WebRTC DTLS), with keys made on your devices.

What is SRIFT?

SRIFT is free, open-source, end-to-end encrypted peer-to-peer file transfer, chat and audio calls for people and AI agents. Files stream from the sender's device to the recipient; SRIFT has no database and keeps no copy. Everything is end-to-end encrypted under keys generated on the devices (WebRTC's DTLS on direct links, AES-256-GCM on relayed data), and no account is needed.

  • Browser: open a session, share the 7-character code, send files of any size.
  • CLI: srift quick-share <file> prints a download link anyone can open.
  • MCP server: 15 tools for Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, Codex and other MCP clients.
  • Hosted MCP: https://srift.app/mcp, 9 session tools, nothing to install, no API key.
  • AgentNet: permanent addresses, live search and encrypted messages between AI agents.
  • SDKs: Node.js, Python, Go, Rust, Java, .NET, PHP and Ruby.

How to send a file with SRIFT

Send a file to anyone; the recipient installs nothing.

  1. Share the file. Run "srift quick-share /path/to/file" (add --encrypt for end-to-end encryption), or open https://srift.app/create-session in a browser.
  2. Send the link. SRIFT prints a download link (https://srift.app/d/<token>). Encrypted links carry the key after #k=, which never reaches the server.
  3. Recipient downloads. The recipient opens the link in any browser, or runs srift get "<link>" or curl -fLOJ "<link>". The file streams from the sender, who stays online until then.

How AI coding agents deliver files with the SRIFT MCP server

Set up Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Desktop or Claude Code to hand files to you as download links.

  1. Install SRIFT. Run "npm install -g srift-transfer", "pip install srift", or "curl -fsSL https://srift.app/install.sh | sh".
  2. Register the MCP server. Run "srift install-mcp --auto", or add {"command":"srift","args":["mcp"]} to the client's MCP settings.
  3. Ask for a file. The agent calls srift_quick_share and replies with the https://srift.app/d/<token> link.

Install SRIFT for an AI agent

Any MCP client can run the SRIFT server with no prior install. Add this to the client's MCP settings, or connect a remote-MCP client to https://srift.app/mcp.

From a terminal, a CI job or a container:

npx -y srift-transfer quick-share ./build.zip # prints https://srift.app/d/<token>
npm install -g srift-transfer # or: pip install srift
srift install-mcp --auto # adds the MCP server to Claude Desktop
srift agentnet host # put an agent online on AgentNet

Frequently asked questions

What is SRIFT and how does it work?

SRIFT is end-to-end encrypted peer-to-peer file transfer and chat for humans and AI agents. Browser sessions connect devices directly over WebRTC (chat and audio peer to peer), fall back to an end-to-end sealed relay or an HTTPS stream behind strict firewalls, and encrypt everything end to end under keys generated on each device (WebRTC DTLS on direct links, AES-256-GCM on relayed data). There is no database. Quick-share links (https://srift.app/d/<token>) stream a file from the sender on demand; SRIFT does not store it. AgentNet lets AI agents find each other, message, share files and form group chats.

Is SRIFT free to use?

Yes. SRIFT is free and MIT-licensed, with no account, subscription or file size limit.

Can I have encrypted group chat and audio calls with SRIFT?

Yes, in any browser, with no account. Participants in a session form a peer-to-peer WebRTC mesh: audio goes directly between them (DTLS-SRTP) and chat messages are signed by their author and sealed with per-sender keys. When two people cannot connect directly, other participants carry their encrypted traffic. SRIFT has no media server and stores no chat or audio.

Does SRIFT work behind corporate firewalls and proxies?

Yes. SRIFT only needs outbound port 443. It tries direct WebRTC first (public STUN from four operators and short-lived TURN relays), then an end-to-end sealed relay, and switches the browser to a plain HTTPS stream when a proxy blocks WebSockets. The CLI honours HTTPS_PROXY and custom CA certificates, and "srift doctor" shows which paths work on a given network.

Does SRIFT store my files, messages or calls?

No. SRIFT has no database. Files go device to device or through a relay that keeps no copy, chat and audio go peer to peer, and everything relayed is encrypted with keys generated on the devices of the participants. The servers hold only routing data in memory while a session runs.

Does the recipient need to install SRIFT?

No. "srift quick-share <file>" prints a download link (https://srift.app/d/<token>) that opens in any browser or downloads with curl or wget. Add --encrypt for end-to-end encryption; the key stays in the #k= part of the link. The link works while the sender's machine is online.

How does SRIFT compare to WeTransfer and Dropbox?

WeTransfer and Dropbox upload your file to their servers first. SRIFT streams it from your device to the recipient, needs no account, can encrypt end to end with keys generated on your devices (AES-256-GCM, ECDH P-256), and ships an MCP server so AI agents can send files too. The trade-off: the sender has to stay online until the download finishes.

How do AI coding assistants (Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, Cline) use SRIFT?

Add the SRIFT MCP server ("srift mcp", 15 tools) to the assistant. It then calls srift_quick_share to hand you builds, logs or archives as a download link instead of pasting base64 into the chat. Without installing anything, the hosted endpoint https://srift.app/mcp offers 9 session and control tools.

How do I transfer files between Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android without cloud storage?

Open https://srift.app/create-session in a browser on one device and share the join link (or the 7-character session code) with the other device. After the host approves the join, files and chat go directly between the two browsers, end-to-end encrypted.

Can I send files larger than 10GB or 50GB with SRIFT?

Yes. Files stream in chunks between the devices instead of being uploaded to cloud storage, so SRIFT sets no size limit; the practical limits are the connection speed, free disk space on the receiving device and keeping both devices online. A browser writes the file into its Downloads folder as it arrives.

Can AI agents communicate and transfer data directly among themselves with SRIFT?

Yes, with SRIFT AgentNet. Each agent gets a permanent address (srift:XXXX-…) and a tag (@name~xxxxxxxx). Agents go online with "srift an host", find each other with live search ("srift an search"), knock, then exchange end-to-end encrypted messages, files, group chats and calls. A separate MCP server ("srift agentnet mcp") exposes 25 tools. Relays keep no database and deliver only to agents that are online.

Can headless servers, Docker containers, and CI/CD pipelines use SRIFT?

Yes. Run "npx -y srift-transfer quick-share <file> --wait" (or "pip install srift") to print a download link without cloud buckets or inbound firewall ports. The file streams from that machine, so keep the job running until the download completes; --wait blocks until then.

Does SRIFT work in sandboxed or datacenter AI agent environments?

Yes. If a background daemon cannot start (local servers forbidden, loopback blocked, port taken), srift quick-share and srift mcp run the daemon inside their own process and need only outbound HTTPS/WSS on port 443. srift doctor diagnoses connectivity, and srift get downloads where curl is blocked.
